Hudson Valley guitar monster Mike Shaw has crafted some of the sickest riffs in recent hardcore history for Mindforce, and he has kept busy in recent years with side projects like Sentinel and Colossus. Right now, Shaw's death metal-influenced band Fatal Realm is killing on the festival landscape, just as he's announcing the first-ever full-length from New World Man, possibly the most berserk of all his bands.
New World Man are presumably named after the Rush song, but they damn sure don't sound like Rush. In addition to Shaw, the band's lineup includes members of groups like Pain Of Truth, Life's Question, Regulate, and No Pressure. (A couple of New World Man members are in more than one of those bands; that's how hardcore works.) New World Man play fast, deranged quasi-thrash, and their songs are often really long and complex, at least compared to the stuff made by those other bands.
Thus far, New World Man have released a 2022 demo and a 2023 EP called The Beast Is Back, and they dropped the two-song single Peeling Through The Skin last year. Their album I Am The Machine comes out in just one month. Its title is a four-minute shred-barrage. Shaw does some absolutely crazy shredding, but the guitar heroics never get in the way of the main objective, which is to stomp bones into dust. Listen below.
