Phoebe Bridgers Shares Primetime Song “On Video,” Boygenius Reunite In Brooklyn

After a few years of relative inactivity, Phoebe Bridgers is back to full-on media blitz mode. Her excellent album Lost Weekend finally came out last month. She's on an arena tour that continues with the no-phones policy of her pre-release secret gigs. And this weekend, she's on movie screens across the world, making her proper feature film debut opposite Robert Pattinson in Lance Oppenheim's much-anticipated Chris Hansen movie Primetime. Since Primetime opens today, Bridgers' song for the soundtrack is out now, too.

Bridgers' song for the Primetime soundtrack, which has to be in the Best Original Song awards conversation already, is called "On Video." She recorded it with the same team that she put to work on Lost Weekend, so maybe it comes from the album sessions. Bridgers co-wrote the track with Jack Antonoff and Christian Lee Hutson, and she co-produced it with Antonoff, Ethan Gruska, and Marshall Vore. Antonoff, Gruska, and Vore all play multiple instruments on the track, as does Alex G, who's also credited with additional production. Other musicians on the track include Hutson, Caroline Shaw, Benny Bock, CJ Camerieri, Will Maclellan, and Godflesh's Justin K. Broadrick, who recently mentioned having another Bridgers collab on the way. I guess this is it!

"On Video" starts off soft and whispery before building into a fuzzed-out rocker on the chorus. Just based on the title, you've got to figure that it's got some thematic links with Primetime, but Bridgers isn't directly singing about Dateline NBC or anything. She performed it live for the first time in Chicago last week, but since she's on a no-phones tour, you had to be there to hear it. Good song! Check it out below.

On Thursday night, Bridgers played the first gig in a three-night stand at Brooklyn's Barclays Center. Immediately after she played "On Video," that she brought out her boygenius bandmates, and they did two songs, "Not Strong Enough" and "Cool About It." It was the first time that Bridgers performed with Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus since Grammy weekend in 2024. If you look around online, you can find brief little seconds-long clips from the set, but I'm not embedding them here because it's more fun to honor the no-phones policy.

When she brought her bandmates to the stage, Bridgers reportedly said, "Surprise, bitch!" It wasn't that much of a surprise, though. The previous night, Baker and Dacus were in the very same building, sitting in "CeLIBrity Row" for the New York Liberty game.

A few hours before Bridgers' show last night, Dacus and Baker attended the protest against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu outside the UN General Assembly in New York. Dozens of diplomats also protested Netanyahu's speech, walking out of the room as he took the podium. Outside the building, hundreds of protesters shut down the street next to the UN, and police arrested about 100 people, including Hannah Einbinder, Susan Sarandon, and Caleb Hearon. Unlike them, Baker and Dacus didn't get detained.
