Last night, Leslie Feist, who has built a fantastic legacy as part of Broken Social Scene and with her solo music as Feist, was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall Of Fame at Massey Hall in Toronto, ON, Canada. The night also honoured '80s rock band the Tragically Hip, Mike Reno and Paul Dean of rock band Loverboy, and pop singer-songwriter Roch Voisine.
Feist was inducted by Grammy-winning producer and musician Finneas, who gave a speech about meeting her as a fan in 2018 at the airport. “Leslie is so many of your favourite artists’ favourite artist," he said. "I know, I’ve talked to all of them about her. She has the most beautiful voice I can imagine a person having and writes lyrics and melodies that have moved me to tears and made my wife and I dance in our kitchen for years. She also kicks ass at the guitar.”
There was also a musical tribute, which featured Charlotte Cornfield opening with “How Come You Never Go There,” followed by Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy performing “The Park," and closing with Finneas' rendition of "My Moon My Man." That cover was released this past Friday as an Amazon Music Original. Feist has performed with Tweedy before, notably for "You And I" from Wilco's seventh studio release Wilco (The Album). Feist also sang with Cornfield on the single "Living With It," off the recent album Hurts Like Hell.
