Modest Mouse fans might've caught Portland's Mimicking Birds when they opened for the band last year. The connection doesn't stop there: The trio also recorded their self-titled debut in the home studio of Isaac Brock, who's releasing the collection on his Glacial Pace imprint tomorrow. It's easy to see why Isaac scooped them up: After "New Doomsdays"'s opening coin toss/sample, main songwriter/vocalist/guitarist Nate Lacy showcases a Brockian quaver floating amid the song's dark, breathy, Mouse-y layers.
