School Of Seven Bells

|Andrew Youssef

Ever since hearing "Babelonia," from School Of Seven Bells's upcoming album Disconnect From Desire, I've been eager to hear more, especially live, since, when we talked for a Progress Report Ben Curtis mentioned writing songs partially based on what they'd learned from playing Alpinisms live. According to photographer Andrew Youssef, the new stuff translated nicely. The trio added a live drummer, and thanks in part to Curtis's "... liberal use of the digitech whammy pedal," the new songs were thick and dreamy. Two Manimal Records bands opened -- VOICEsVOICEs and Sister Crayon. They were well-matched for the show: Both bands make different flavors of ethereal, sometimes fractured music.
