Over the summer of '07, the Pains Of Being Pure At Heart landed themselves a BTW stamp on the back of just a 15-minute debut EP; forward a year-and-a-half and the band's being tapped by the likes of MySpace to support Deerhunter in the website's latest "Secret Show" installment, further cementing a certain status in the indie orbit for the Pains' infectious fuzz-pop and exquisitely manicured reference points. The buzzy Buzzfeed-ers were just an opening act though; eyes as always were widest for Bradford and Lockett (he of the sublime Lotus Plaza solo LP) and the rest. Antics were at a minimum, but the show was typically intense: At the outset Cox dedicated the night to "a friend" who he just lost to a heart attack. "This music is for him tonight," he said. RIP, Randall Bewley. Here's the night in pictures by Julie Remensperger.
