In a few months, Phosphorescent, the project run by the Brooklyn-based Alabama-transplant songwriter Matthew Houck, will follow up 2010's Here's To Taking It Easy with a new album called Muchacho. Houck says that he wrote most of the songs in a Mexican beach hut. The first track we've heard from it is a slow, wounded, pretty tune called "Song For Zula," which adds impressionist strings and synthetic drum-echoes to Houck's grizzled Americana.
