Today, the Adult Swim Singles series was supposed to give us a new track from Flying Lotus. Instead, it's given us something that may be better. FlyLo has a new project, an all-star team-up that includes a couple of other vital future-music entities: Seattle avant-rap duo Shabazz Palaces and spaced-out bass virtuoso Thundercat. Together, they're calling themselves WOKE, and the first song they've made together is "The Lavishments Of Light Looking." It's a deeply zonked-out astral-jazz rumble, produced by FlyLo and featuring vocals from the group's spiritual forbear George Clinton. There is a lot going on in this song, and it'll take more than one listen to get any type of handle on what's going on, but it's worth delving into.
