By their own description, the nonprofit Sounds Of Saving "designs and provides tools, content, resources, and curriculum to young people, ages 14 to 24, on how to discover and utilize music to support their mental health and wellness." They have a music series called Song That Found Me At The Right Time, which today features a contribution from Skullcrusher, fresh off last fall's album And Your Song Is Like A Circle.
Helen Ballentine, the spectral singer-songwriter who records as Skullcrusher, decided to perform Tim Buckley's "Song To The Siren" in the style of This Mortal Coil. In the video, she talks about her experience with her experience with addiction, finding community in rehab, and learning to sit with anxiety and darker emotions.
"If you're feeling really dark, you kind of have to sit in that for a little, and come to a point where you're ready to accept it, and move on," she says. "Taking the time to acknowledge and validate and respect your emotions, and get to a place where I can move on." Check out her testimonial and the Buckley cover below.
