Bruno Mars is one of those pop stars who can seemingly fade into the background while still quietly cranking out gigantic hits. It's been more than eight years since Mars released 24K Magic, his last solo album, but he's still racked up a couple more #1 hits since that record arrived. So it's a big deal that Mars is returning with The Romantic, the new album that he announced yesterday. The first single will arrive tomorrow, so we still have no idea how it'll sound. But Mars is evidently confident enough that he's already announcing a grand-scale stadium tour, which he's calling the Romantic Tour.
Even though we haven't heard any of the music from The Romantic yet, we can make an educated guess on how it'll sound based on the bill for the Romantic Tour. Mars' Silk Sonic partner Anderson .Paak is on board for the entire tour, except he's billed as "Anderson .Paak as DJ Pee .Wee." Maybe this means he'll do actual DJ sets every night, but I think it's more likely that we're in for some wacky character work.
The tour also features a rotating team of opening acts, all of whom walk the line between old-school R&B and straight-up pop: Leon Thomas, Raye, and Victoria Monét. The tour is set to start in Las Vegas, where Mars has been playing residencies for years, and it'll hit stadiums across North America and Europe from April to October. Check out the dates below.
