We're getting mighty close to EXPO, the new album from the arty English indie band Ulrika Spacek. Early singles "Build A Box Then Break It" and "Square Root Of None" piqued our interest, and I'm finding today's new offering "Picto" irresistibly jittery. The track is buoyed by nonstop percolation but manages to steer through a bunch of tones and textures.
Along with "Picto," the band has shared a sort of manifesto for the new LP:
There is no better way to describe the process other than fun. It felt great to be working as a collective again and ultimately the music we were making felt fresh. There was a lot of optimism about what music we would make after working on this song and lyrically it celebrates making art as a collective as opposed to constant individual expression.
Director Katya Ganfeld's "Picto" video "began with the cruel dilemma of having an upcoming dental appointment when you’re phobic of going to the dentist." Watch it below.
EXPO is out 2/6 on Full Time Hobby.
