Cola Announce New Album Cost Of Living Adjustment: Hear “Hedgesitting”

It's been four and a half years since the Montreal post-punk band Ought broke up and two of the four members went on to form a new group called Cola with U.S. Girls collaborator Evan Cartwright. In that time, Cola have hit the ground running, releasing two albums and a bunch of extra tracks like last year's "Mendicant." It's about to be three albums. This spring, Cola will release their new LP Cost Of Living Adjustment — or, if you prefer, C.O.L.A.

Cost Of Living Adjustment follows 2024's The Gloss, and it represents Cola's attempt to move out of the realm of what the band calls "tasteful minimalism." You can hear that impulse at work on "Hedgesitting," the album's lead single and opening track. It's a funky, exuberant jam with a shambolic breakbeat and some big organ and guitar melodies. The lyrics are as abstract as ever, but the movie is joyously, directly hooky.

Kristina Pedersen directed the "Hedgesitting" video, which goes heavy on old spliced-together film footage. Below, check out that clip and the Cost Of Living Adjustment tracklist.
