Zara Larsson, Perfume Genius Raise Awareness Of Unflattering Wikipedia Photos

Fame comes with a lot of sacrifices. Your privacy is compromised, your persona becomes currency, and sometimes you think you look bad in your Wikipedia photo. The latter is true for Zara Larsson, the Swedish pop star whose been experiencing a steady rise to recognizable-household-name status since her 2017 single "Symphony" got a TikTok-meme boost a couple of years ago. Larsson's well aware that her Wikipedia page is getting a lot more eyes than usual lately, and she took to TikTok herself to express her frustration over the main photo of her that those eyes were seeing.

Apparently, Larsson has spent a lot of time repeatedly changing her Wiki photo to a photo of herself she likes, but someone else kept changing it back to the previous photo, which she wasn't a fan of (though Wikipedia only allows licensed media, so contributors have limited choices). "I will never stop changing that picture to a nice one," she says in the TikTok. "You can stop, because I will never stop." The edit action history of her Wikipedia page corroborates that it had been subject to "persistent disruptive editing" and a "recent flood of vandalism caused by the article subject posting on TikTok requesting this image be used instead of the previous one." At the time of writing this article, her Wiki photo is her preferred photo.

Perfume Genius' Mike Hadreas was similarly displeased with his Wikipedia photo, which hadn't been updated since 2017. "Can someone please change my Wikipedia pictures? How do you do it? It's haunted me for years," he tweeted yesterday, expressing remorse over his peer Blake Mills getting a very handsome Wikipedia photo. Hadreas' Wiki photo is now a more recent flattering one.
