Swae Lee, the more famous half of the party-starting rap duo Rae Sremmurd, has already made a solo album, sort of. In 2018, Rae Sremmurd attempted to pull off their own Speakerboxxx/The Love Below situation when they released the bad-idea triple album SR3MM — one solo album from Swae Lee, one from his brother Slim Jxmmi, and one of the two together. It didn't catch on, and now Swae is going the more traditional solo-album route.
We don't have a release date or really any details yet on Swae Lee's upcoming solo album, but we do know that it's called Same Difference and that the line comes from his new single "Flammable." Pretty fun song! The beat, from Young Thug collaborator Rosen Beatz, is a riffy, staccato thing that moves in a rage-rap direction without fully committing. Swae locks into a flow, not quite rapping and not quite singing, letting his voice float angelically about the track. I like the bit where he says he's got "paper like a article."
In the Logan Meis-directed "Flammable" video, Swae Lee rides around on a fanboat while shooting off a flamethrower, which looks dangerous but fun. I wonder if he'll keep that flamethrower in a shed in his backyard like Rick Dalton. Check it out below.
Swae Lee is playing a solo set at this year's Coachella, and he also just teamed up with longtime collaborator Mike Will Made-It for the single "Rockstar Raging."
