Courtney Love Clarifies Hole Reunion Tease: “No Hole Reunion”

Well, that didn't last long. On Tuesday, Courtney Love posted an Instagram video of former Hole bassist Melissa Auf der Maur, setting it to Hole's 1999 classic "Malibu." Love captioned the post, "So do we tell the kids about the tour @xmadmx ?" Naturally, this led to plenty of speculation about a Hole reunion, a possibility that Love has alternately teased and refuted many times over the years. But now, Love herself is here to clarify things: "No Hole reunion." Damn.

Love cleared things in the comments section of SPIN's Instagram post about what sure looked like a Hole reunion teaser. Love wrote that a Hole reunion isn't happening but that Auf der Maur would be "playing some shows, new songs" with her. She also wrote, "Me and @xmadmx touring new songs."

So maybe Love is planning to tour the solo album that's been in the works for years and Auf der Maur is planning to join her backing band. That's not a Hole reunion, but it's half of a Hole reunion. In 2010, Love released an album and played shows under the Hole name even though there were no other '90s-era Hole members in her band, and this is more of a Hole reunion that that. In any case, we're dealing in the pure hypothetical realm here, since there's no concrete confirmation of big Courtney Love plans yet.
