Lip Critic's new album Theft World has an incredible backstory: While the Band To Watch was touring in support of their 2024 debut album Hex Dealer, frontman Bret Kaser's identity was stolen by a young fan of the band in a Five Nights At Freddy's hoodie who was convinced clues for an elaborate scavenger hunt were hidden within Lip Critic's music. Kaser and his bandmates tracked this kid down, recorded him explaining his ideas, and scrapped the album they were working on to make a different one inspired by the scammer's imagined lore.
Our first taste of the project was "Legs In A Snare," a wild song with a wild video. The same description could apply to "Jackpot," the second Theft World single, out today. Lip Critic continue to make bonkers electronic rock full of jarring percussion, discordant synths, and confrontational vocals from Kaser that almost qualify as rapping. It's inspired by our culture's current immersion in gambling, and to drive home the point, the video finds Kaser slowly losing his mind inside a casino.
