runo plum – “pink moon”

It's a good day for some soft, soothing music, right? I mean, it's not really a good day for anything other than a sudden and complete change of American leadership, but as long as we're living through all this fucking shit, we might as well sooth ourselves. To that end, there's a new runo plum song that might help out a bit.

The Minnesota singer-songwriter runo plum will release a new EP called Bloom Again next month, and we already posted lead single "butterflies." Today, she's got a new one called "pink moon," which is somehow not a Nick Drake cover. Apparently, the title isn't even an allusion, though the song does have general Nick Drake vibes. It's the kind of hypnotic acoustic incantation where you can hear fingers squeaking on guitar strings. In a press release, plum says that she wrote it after her first date with girlfriend and collaborator Noa Francis. Here's what she says:

The love I was experiencing felt like a “once in a blue moon” situation — but we are both girls, so it felt cute to make it a "pink moon." It really is just a very tender love song, written after my first date with my girlfriend Noa. Looking back on it a year and a half later, it’s definitely a good example of the intensity of the "honeymoon" phase. I recorded it while I was lounging in bed, the night after our date, and there was just something really special about the feeling of the first time playing it that felt impossible to re-create.

The Bloom Again EP is out 5/8 on Winspear.
