Lip Critic – “Talon”

Lip Critic's Theft World is shaping to be as wild as its premise. The album was allegedly inspired by a real-life theft of frontman Bret Kaser's identity by a fan who was convinced Lip Critic's music contained clues for an elaborate scavenger hunt. Early singles "Legs In A Snare" and "Jackpot" have fleshed out the record's clamorous sonic palette with some attention-grabbing visuals, a trend that continues today.

New single "Talon" presents Lip Critic in all their abrasive glory. Over blaring synths, bashed-out drums, and skittering electronics, Kaser's vocals blur the line between rapping and Fontaines-style post-punk Sprechgesang. As the song ramps up its claustrophobic intensity, there are also some terrifying black metal rasps.

Colter Fellows' video elevates the experience. Shot on drones (which appear in the footage, making Kaser look cool as hell), the footage features the creepy guy from the "Legs In A Snare" video and one of the slot machines from "Jackpot." World-building! We love to see it, and we can see it below.

Theft World is out 5/1 on Partisan.
