David Burke, the 21-year-old alt-pop singer who performs as D4vd, has been arrested for the murder of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Hernandez was reported missing last spring, and her decomposing body was discovered on September 8 in an abandoned Tesla registered to Burke that had been parked in the Hollywood Hills for more than a month. In the weeks following the discovery, fans circulated photos and videos that appeared to show D4vd and Hernandez together. They reportedly had matching tattoos, and Hernandez’s mother told police that she had a boyfriend named David.
As details of the case emerged, D4vd continued playing shows in support of his debut album. After police searched his house in September, his live events were canceled and Interscope suspended plans for a deluxe edition. R&B star Kali Uchis, who appeared on D4vd’s single “Crashing,” had the collaboration pulled from streaming services.
D4vd is being held without bail, and the case will be presented to the LA County District Attorney’s office on Monday.
