Bruce Hornsby Plays Fallon As His Debut Album Turns 40

Bruce Hornsby & The Range released their debut album The Way It Is on April 24, 1986. Big record. The Way It Is went triple platinum, and its title track reached #1 and got sampled on a million rap songs. Hornsby won the Best New Artist Grammy, and then he went on to a long and interesting career, which is not something that happens with every winner of that particular award. Six days ago, The Way It Is turned 40, and that is an anniversary worth celebrating.

Another artist might build a tour, or at least a promotional blitz, around such an anniversary, but that is not the Bruce Hornsby way. Instead, Hornsby would rather promote the new music that he continues to make. Last month, Hornsby released Indigo Park, an album that features collaborations with Bonnie Raitt, Ezra Koenig, Blake Mills, and Hornsby's late friend Bob Weir. Last night, Horsby and his band the Noisemakers were the musical guests on The Tonight Show, and they played a smooth and lovely version of that LP's title track. Watch it below.

Also, John Mulaney recently shared a clip from the video for "Ecstatic," Hornsby's recent Bonnie Raitt collab, and said it was maybe the best video of the year. He might be right! It's beautiful!

Indigo Park is out now on Zappo Productions/Thirty Tigers.
