Artificial Go – “Triple Ones”

We here at Stereogum are fans of the Cincinnati post-punk/indie-pop band Artificial Go, so I'm happy to report that they've signed with Carpark Records. Their first single for the label, arriving on the heels of last year's sophomore LP Musical Chairs, is out today. "Triple Ones" is the A-side of a 7" dropping next month, backed by "Jane Ate The Apple Seed." It's scrappy, catchy rocker that feels a bit like the Velvet Underground soundtracking a beach party.

The band's Angie Willcutt unpacks the lyrics:

“Triple Ones” is a play on words from an underpaid check. My ex-boss sent out an incorrect paycheck as the angel number “$111,” attempting to come across as spiritual when underpaying me.

The song is about the times that life throws out experiences that force you to stand up for yourself and question those around you.
