Ibeyi Announce New Album Offering: Hear “Aset”

Lisandra Alvarez

It's been almost exactly four years since Ibeyi, the duo of French-Cuban twin sisters Lisa-Kaindé and Naomi Diaz, released Spell31, their last album. The two sisters have been living apart from each other in recent years, but they came back together to record the upcoming Offering, their first LP since going independent. Where their past music largely paired their voices with percussion and piano, they're trying out different approaches on this one. You can year that on lead single "Aset."

"Aset," named after and inspired by the Egyptian goddess Isis, is a swirling, meditative piece of mood music. It's driven by rippling percussion and soft synth tones, and it wafts through the air with an easy sensuality. The Diaz sisters co-produced the track with Haitian producer Michaël Brun, another artist who blends traditional Caribbean styles with of-the-moment sounds.

Directors Corry Van Rhijn and Roman Pichon Herrera shot the video on location in Havana, and it's a visually intoxicating look at a sweaty apartment party. You might fall in love watching this one. That clip and the Offering tracklist are below.
