Way back in 2018, Many Rooms, the one-woman project from Houston-based musician Brianna Hunt, released her debut album There Is A Presence Here. She was a Stereogum Artist To Watch, and we put her on our list of the year's best new bands. Since then, though, Many Rooms has been awfully quiet. After the album, Many Rooms only released a couple of singles, and the last of those was 2021's "When Love Got In The Way." But now, she's back with new music.
On Instagram, Brianna Hunt says that she's had three kids since she "took pause from" Many Rooms. Yesterday, she quietly released a new two-song EP called Death & Life. Her new tracks "You're Gonna Die" and "Reunion" are spare, haunted doom-folk with atmosphere. I'd say that they sit somewhere on the spectrum between Grouper and early Low, and if that sounds intriguing, then I would urge you to listen below.
