Dave Mustaine Calls Out “Dickhead” Journalist Onstage In Helsinki

One week ago today, when Megadeth's farewell tour rolled into Helsinki, Dave Mustaine took the stage with a bone to pick. Mustaine told the crowd at Suvilahti that he had been speaking to a reporter from the local newspaper before the show and was unimpressed.

Describing the unnamed scribe as "such a fucking dickhead," Mustaine related a question the journalist posed regarding James Hetfield, frontman and rhythm guitarist for Metallica, who famously fired Mustaine as lead guitarist and replaced him with Kirk Hammett a month before recording their 1983 debut album Kill 'Em All. (Megadeth's version of the next album's title track "Ride The Lightning," which Mustaine co-wrote, appeared on this year's chart-topping self-titled Megadeth LP.)

Mustaine continued:

He asked me if I fought James Hetfield who would win? And I thought, "What kind of a fucking idiot would say something like that?" So I want to dedicate this next song to him, but we don't have a song called "I'm An Asshole." Instead, we'll do another new song called "Let There Be Shred."

Answer the question, Dave!

Signed, another fucking dickhead idiot asshole who wants to know.

Watch a disdainful Mustaine tell this tale below.
