Slowcore Bands imy3 & towhead Announce New Split EP: Hear Two Tracks

Philadelphia-based duo imy3 and Bay Area trio towhead are two bands who mess around with '90s slowcore sounds, combining them with the playful and experimental home-recorded electronic textures that have come to affect so much DIY music. They're both really new. imy3 released their first demo in 2024, and their album imy2 came out last year. Walker Price started towhead as a bedroom-folk project in Washington, DC in 2022, and it developed into a full band after he moved to the Bay.

imy3 and towhead don't sound that much like each other, but they've got plenty of overlap. Partners Finn Palamaro and Emily Hall started imy3 as an experimental project in San Francisco, and Palamaro played drums for towhead when they released their hollow earth EP last year. Last year, imy3 and towhead did a DIY-style East Coast tour together. Now, they're joining forces on a new split EP.

The untitled imy3/towhead split has three songs apiece from the two new bands, and both of them have shared new ones with the EP announcement. imy3's "Shark" is a dazed, loopy acoustic number with moments of overlapping dialogue; it sounds like what might happen if ear decided to make folk music. towhead's "Blessed Are The Foals" is a tangled, downbeat meditation with sleepily murmured vocals and eerie violins. Check out both below.

TRACKLIST:
01 imy3 - "Shark"
02 imy3 - "What You Mean"
03 imy3 - "I'll Come Around"
04 towhead - "By Name"
05 towhead - "Blessed Are The Foals"
06 towhead - "Bug"

the imy3/towhead split is out 8/7 on Cherub Dream.
