Twin Temple Say They Were Dropped From Charley Crockett Shows Over Satanic Imagery

Travis Shinn

Twin Temple, the LA-based duo of married couple Alexandra and Zachary James, have carved out an interesting niche for themselves. They make old-timey doo-wop and early-'60s pop pastiche that's full of campy Satanic imagery; hits include "Lucifer, My Love," "Sex Magick," and "Let's Have A Satanic Orgy." Apparently, not everyone appreciates this whole gimmick. The duo were booked to play a couple of shows next week with Charley Crockett, the old-school outlaw country star who just released his shelved album Clovis, but they say that they've been dropped from those shows because of their Satanic imagery.

Twin Temple were supposed to open two Charley Crockett shows next week — a July 14 gig in Troutdale, Oregon, and then another one on July 18 in Paso Robles, California. Those are before their September dates with Danzig, someone who will presumably not have any issues with Satanic imagery. In a social media statement yesterday, the duo said that they've been removed from those Crockett bills:

Today we were informed that Charley Crockett has decided to remove Twin Temple from his upcoming shows next week due to our Satanic imagery.

Unfortunately, that means we will not be able to perform for you next week as planned. We are really disappointed as we were looking forward to getting back out and seeing you, and also what it meant as far as bringing different types of people and music lovers together. We are sorry to everyone who was planning to see us. We're grateful for your support, not only of Twin Temple, but more importantly of artistic freedom. HAIL SATAN! 93/93

A few years ago, Twin Temple were denounced by Alex Jones, and they told Kerrang about all the death threats that they got in the immediate aftermath. Satanic imagery is literally their entire thing. For instance: They're selling blood-filled vinyl for $166.66. It's not like they were hiding anything. So it's a little weird that they'd get booked to play shows with someone who doesn't want to be associated with that stuff. Also, Crockett has rams on his Age Of The Ram tour poster, which is clearly evil. Let he who is without Satanic imagery cast the first stone.
