Following a successful broadway stint as the Emcee in Cabaret last year, country pop star Orville Peck is returning as the masked balladeer with a new album. Mule, which is out September 18 via Warner Records, will be his latest full-length since 2022's Bronco. He announced news with the lead single "Too Little, Too Late."
It's unclear if Peck is a big fan of 2000s R&B singer JoJo, but if he is then the timing is perfect: Today is also the 20th anniversary of JoJo's big hit of the same name. Name aside, the two songs couldn't be more different. Peck's "Too Little, Too Late" showcases his theatric country pipes. It's a bit doo-wop; it's a bit Buddy Holly; it's a bit swing with suede smooth croons. It was co-written with Semisonic's Dan Wilson and Grammy-winning producer Steve Rusch. It was produced by Jay Joyce.
