I always wonder about the acts who release multiple self-titled albums, the Peter Gabriels and Weezers and Rancids and American Footballs of the world. That must take a whole lot of self-confidence, right? Or maybe it's just a willingness to confuse your audience. Perhaps those two things are the same thing. Much to think about. Anyway, we can now add Philadelphian post-metal churners Bruise Bath to that list.
Bruise Bath started a decade ago as a vehicle for singer/guitarist Zak Krone, and it slowly developed into a full band over the years. Bruise Bath developed their angular, insular, heavily pretty sound over a series of smaller releases and then dropped their self-titled full-length debut in 2017. The band's lineup has changed since then, and now they're ready to announce a second self-titled LP.
Bruise Bath produced their own record, which I guess maybe we should call Bruise Bath II. Lead single "Blood On My Tongue" combines long stretches of muttery slowcore with occasional metallic flare-ups. Pretty interesting!
