Olivia Rodrigo Joins The Smashing Pumpkins At Lollapalooza 2026

At Lollapalooza last night, the Smashing Pumpkins brought out Olivia Rodrigo, Melissa Auf der Maur, and Yungblud. Rodrigo sang "Thirty-Three," and it was only the second time the Pumpkins have played the Mellon Collie single since 2018 — the first was at their Lollapalooza aftershow at the Riviera on Wednesday. It was also the Smashing Pumpkins' first time playing their hometown festival in 32 years.

The Smashing Pumpkins aren't among the '90s rock acts Rodrigo has cited as influences, but many have compared her you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love single "the cure" to the Siamese Dream classic "Disarm" (Rodrigo was spotted at O'Hare by a TikToker on Friday morning, so her appearance at the fest was not a complete surprise).

Yungblud has said his song "Zombie" was intentionally "channeling" Siamese Dream, and he actually collaborated with the Pumpkins on a rerecording of it early this year. The British rocker came out for "Luna" after his own set earlier in the day, marking his return to the stage after canceling a different festival appearance for mental health reasons earlier last month.

Former Pumpkins bassist Auf der Maur, who recently announced her first new music in 16 years, joined for the final song, "The Everlasting Gaze." She had already done the same with the Pumpkins at the aforementioned aftershow and in Montreal last year. Her other famous former bandmate, Hole's Courtney Love, was very psyched for her and the entire lineup.
