Two Shell use AI. They admitted it. For a while, there have been rumors about the pranksterish London dance duo and their reliance on generative AI to make so much music, and they confirmed it earlier this summer. In a Resident Advisor interview, one of the duo's two masked, anonymous members said that they've used AI "for a couple of years now" and that they consider it to be "just another instrument, really."
In a video clip that's been circulating since June, the guy admits that AI "does bring some wild things with it, some wild questions around things like identity and ownership" but that they also like the aesthetic weirdness of it: "There's an irony with it where I think sometimes it feels like the emptiness of it almost helps you identify the soul in it." Talking about the resistance to AI, he compares it to the old days when musicians' unions would object to the use of synthesizers.

No! Wack! Fuck that shit! As someone who has enjoyed Two Shell's music in the past, this kind of bullshit makes me mistrust my own reactions. This fall, the duo will release their new album Infinite Now, and we've already posted their singles "The Nightmare," "Follow," "Smile," and "Thing About You."
