Martha Reeves is eager to clear the air about her viral performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner." In case you somehow didn't see, she offered a rather unlistenable version of the national anthem at the inaugural Women's Professional Baseball League last weekend, and now she's blaming the backup singers on Fox 2 Detroit.
In the interview, Charlie Langton asked the Motown legend if she wanted to do a redo. She said, "I don't have to redo anything. I didn't do that. Those girls were singing, didn't you know that?" Langton then asked if the backup singers were off-key. "They were trying to make some money," she answered, and added, "I didn't have a chance to rehearse with them." However, shortly after the performance, TMZ shared videos from a rehearsal.
"I'm proud," she said of the performance. "I'm happy. I didn't take the mic and hit that girl." She then launched into a redo, which everyone agrees is not that different from the previous one. Watch below.
