Charli XCX Joins The Strokes At Outside Lands

10:03 AM EDT on August 9, 2026

Last night was a big one for Auto-Tune lovers. Charli xcx joined the Strokes during their headline set at Outside Lands to perform “Take It Or Leave It” from 2001’s Is This It. Charli headlined the festival the night before.

“Congratulations, you have defeated us at the album sales. Your new queen of everything: Charli XCX!” Julian Casablancas said as the Music, Fashion, Film singer took the stage. It was an electric performance, with Charli showing off a variety of vocal styles — from soft and whispery to a near growl.

“Charli Motherfucking XCX,” he said as she exited the stage after hugging Albert Hammond Jr. “Yup, she won. She won by a lot. She’s a giant pop star, in our defense,” he continued, referring to the album sales. The Strokes new album Reality Awaits and Charli's latest LP Music, Fashion, Film were both released on July 24.

That wasn’t the only surprise appearance she made yesterday during another artist's set at the San Francisco music festival. She also made a video appearance during Djo’s set while he performed his song “Charlie’s Garden.” As a brief interlude during the song, she popped up on the big side screens with this message: “Joe, it’s Charli. I had no idea you’d written a song about me. That is, like, so sweet of you. I’m honored. Anyways, call me back after the show and we can talk about it.”
