Sadurn came back into our orbit this summer with "Whole Thing," the lead single from their forthcoming album The Underworld. Our next preview of the album arrives today in the form of "Never Tell Me," a song that may well be familiar to this band's biggest fans. Sadurn mastermind G DeGroot says they've been closing their shows with the six-minute indie-folk power ballad since even before the release of their 2022 debut Radiator:
"never tell me" is one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written, I think. It started emerging in 2021 at the moment of a breakup, and then I became too depressed to finish it for another six months. The upside of that is that I was able to write it alongside the full band - we had only recently started playing together, and it was really fun to be able to bring a song to them while it was still in progress. I think that’s something that sets this album apart from Radiator - those earlier songs I had written for Sadurn as an acoustic duo and then adapted to a full band, whereas these ones were mostly written with a band in mind.
We’ve been playing this song as an ender to our live set since before Radiator came out, it’s kind of a crowd favorite, so we’re pretty stoked to release it. The music video we also worked super hard on - I spent weeks making all these puppets and then we got to run around in the woods and do goofy green screen stuff. We had a really strong vision for the video of getting transported into another realm, based off of these weird guys I like to draw, and then Sarah and Enne really killed it with helping us bring that vision to life.

The Underworld is out 10/16 on Run For Cover.
