Guitarist Stephen Egerton joined the Descendents, the great California hardcore punk band, in 1986, just before that band broke up. When the Descendents were no more, Egerton played in the offshoot All, and then he rejoined the Descendents when that band reunited in 1996. Egerton has been in the band ever since, and he has also produced other acts at his home studio in Tulsa. Last year, he joined Hanson at Riot Fest and helped out on their Descendents cover. Now, Egerton is getting ready to release his first-ever solo album, and it sounds nothing like the Descendents.
Last month Egerton, emailed me to tell me about his cleverly titled solo debut I Think You're Overthinking This. When he turned 60 last year, his wife's big birthday present was a four-day session at Abbey Road Studios. Pretty nice! Egerton used that time to begin work on a record of bright, shiny power pop. He plays guitar, bass, and drums on all 10 songs, and he recorded the vocals and mixed the tracks at home after laying down the instrumentals at Abbey Road.
