If you're unfamiliar with God's Hate, the gloriously violent chug-mosh heavy hardcore band from California's San Fernando Valley, the main thing you need to know is that their singer is a big fucking wrestler. In 2014, when God's Hate released their debut EP Divine Injustice, the man known as Brody King hadn't yet begun his pro wrestling career. In hardcore circles, though, King was known as one of the most fearsome and reckless moshers out there, and his friend Colin Young, who has about a million other bands, decided that King needed a band of his own. This was a good call. God's Hate have continued to make guttural riff-stomp mosh music even as King's wrestling career has taken off, to the point where he's now a crowd favorite in All Elite Wrestling.
God's Hate have never been a super-busy band, mostly because everyone else in the group tends to have a lot going on. These days, the gigantic, tatted-up Brody King is thriving in AEW, where he's a former tag team champion who has challenged for the world title. (Right now, he's one third of the Trios Champions, along with Bandido and Hangman Adam Page.) Colin Young has the Hardlore podcast, as well as Twitching Tongues, the band that he and his brother Taylor started before God's Hate. Taylor Young, also in God's Hate, is maybe the busiest producer in heavy music right now, while other God's Hate members are also in bands like Terror, Skinhead, and King Nine.
God's Hate released an insanely mean self-titled album back in 2021, and they have only been intermittently active since then. At last year's Sound And Fury fest, God's Hate played their last show before a planned hiatus, and their set included a brief reunion from West Coast legends Carry On and a mid-set guest performance from Terror. The hiatus ultimately didn't last that long, though. This year's Sound And Fury went down in LA last weekend. The festival always leaves one time-slot blank for a surprise performance. On Sunday, this year's surprise performance turned out to be a one-two combo set from God's Hate and Twitching Tongues.
Now, God's Hate are back with three new songs. Their EP Won't Be Disgraced is their first new music in five years, and it's motivated in part by the loss of people close to the band, including former drummer Cayle Sain. I have had these three songs on repeat all morning, and they are exactly what I need in my life at this moment. Hear the EP for yourself below.
The Won't Be Disgraced EP is out now on Closed Casket Activities.
