We've been buzzing about the rising London combo World News for so long that I almost can't believe they're just now announcing their debut album, but it's true: In Purgatory is about to get out of purgatory with release set for October on Pie & Mash. The album will feature the April single "Sidestep" as well as last year's "Everything Is Coming Up Roses" and "Don't Want To Know." Today the band adds to that hot streak with a video for the Knopfler-meets-Marr clean-guitar clinic "The Way It Goes."
"Oh honey, nobody knows which way to go," Alex Evans sings on the chorus. He explains that the song has been in the works for more than half a decade:
The way it goes was mostly written and demo’d back in 2020. The lyrics don’t possess too much of a story, but are more phrases, thoughts and collections of words of how I was feeling at the time. The album has a few songs on it similar to this that were written a few years ago, whilst some of the other tracks were written more recently, and in some cases weeks/days before hitting the studio. We’re all very excited to share the album with everyone.
