Nobody will ever be allowed to say a single rude word about Samira Winter in my presence. She records dreamy shoegaze as just plain Winter, and she's also Stereogum's newest VJ. Earlier this year, I spent a few days with Winter at the Kilby Block Party festival in Salt Lake City, where she made this instant-classic video. She was a fantastic hang. Just unbelievably cool. One morning, I was severely hungover, and I had to excuse myself from talking to her so I could go barf in some bushes. She didn't even make fun of me for it. I would've made fun of me for that! She did not. A class act.
If I didn't like Winter's music, I still wouldn't say anything rude about her. I'd just kind of get quiet and maybe change the subject. Luckily, I do like Winter's music, and I think you might like it, too. Next month, Winter will release her Romantix Mixtape EP, a companion piece to the 2025 album Adult Romantix. We've already posted her new versions of "without you," with Soccer Mommy, and "hollow." Today, she teams up with Peel Dream Magazine's Joe Stevens for a soft acoustic version of "hide-a-lullaby," which was a vast and sprawling Tanukichan collab in its original form.
In a press release, Winter says, "I hadn’t ever imagined ‘hide-a-lullaby’ in a more stripped-down acoustic version, but this new version with Peel Dream Magazine really brings a sense of reinvention and fresh perspective to the song." The song's dreamy Takachrome-directed video is all Super 8 footage of Winter when she was on tour in Tokyo. Check it out below, alongside the original "hide-a-lullaby" clip.
