Former Foxing frontman Conor Murphy announced the new Smidley album in June. So far we've heard "Capstone" featuring Lucy Dacus and "Love In Every Direction" from Murphy Horse, and now he's sharing the title track.
"'Murphy Horse' became the album title when I realized this song summed up the themes I was exploring most concisely," Murphy explains. "I felt confused, exhausted and aimless thinking about the future. The reincarnation theme (albeit a tenuous and shallow one) was really born out of hopelessness. In this life, I fail to make the art I want to make. In the next life, maybe I won't even know what art or music is. To me, there's something calming in that."
Despite that rather depressing explanation, none of Foxing's emo energy can be found in "Murphy Horse"; the track is bright and colorful, focused on hooks and good vibes more than anything else. Watch the video animated by Murphy and Steven Pitingolo below.
