Last year, Jess Kerber shared her debut album From Way Down Here on the reliable LA label Felte. Now, the Nashville-based singer-songwriter is back to announce its followup, The World Is Dark, But I Want It To Be Funny. The existential, lush lead single "Changing" is here today.
"Everything is always cycling through, big and small, and in these songs I am realizing how much energy even little things require," Kerber says of the song. About the LP, she adds, "Everything is written by me, alone in a room, and when I start to think too much in the moment, I often lose what I'm trying to say, so that singular focus is an essential part of the process."
The record was recorded primarily at her home studio with Will Orchard, about which Kerber explains, "Recording in our home studio can be a long process, but it matches our pace of life; we'd clean up after dinner, make some coffee, and then record a few takes… we didn't need or want to push anything."
