In May, Mynolia released her first song "Needle," a sprawl of indie folk laced with field-recorded birdsong. It was followed by the gorgeous "Run Like Hell," and today the Nashville-based singer-songwriter is announcing her debut album Salt Around My Bed. The new single "Holy Line" is another entrancing ballad.
"This song emerged almost fully from a vivid, bittersweet dream," Maja Presnell explains. "It's disorienting when there is no discernible distinction between the dream memory and a real-life memory. 'Holy Line' is about reuniting with something you'd never really had, or had all along but didn’t know it. The album's title, Salt Around My Bed, comes from the second verse: 'draw circles on my back in the new just like the old, salt around my bed, hoping you'd come along.' For me, the intention and magic was set in the dream, which made that threshold, or holy line, even blurrier."
Mynolia has many collaborators on the LP: Pete Pételle and Florian Holoubek on drums and percussion; Spencer Cullum on pedal steel; Corin Droullard on horns; Patrick McGonigle on violin and mandolin; Sam Que on flute; Rich Ruth on synths, guitar, bass, and co-production; Taylor Wafford (Blood Root) on backing vocals; and her husband Charles Michael Parks Jr. (All Them Witches) on bass.
"My mind is a seesaw in pursuit of balance," Mynolia adds, "but most of the time it's the not thinking that makes things snap into focus, the laughing that deepens the capacity for emotion and temperance that actually lays the foundation for change, both personal and collective."
The release of "Holy Line" comes with a live performance video of the song, recorded at Berlin's Schiller Theatre. Check out both below.
