Sponge Announce Final Album Recuerda Tu Muerte: Hear “Self Inflicted Loss”

12:48 PM EDT on September 16, 2026

Detroit alt-rockers Sponge were all over the radio in the years after they released their gold-selling 1994 debut album Rotting Piñata. They haven't been that prominent since then, but they've stuck around and continued to release music. In 2024, they released 1994, an album that was just covers of songs from that year. Now, Sponge are finally coming to the end of the road, and they're announcing what's being billed as their final album.

Sponge's new LP Recuerda Tu Muerte (Spanish for Remember Your Death) comes out next month, after Sponge launch their fall tour with their contemporaries in Candlebox. The band teamed up with Robot Chicken producers Stoopid Buddy Stoodios to make the video for the lead single, the bright and shiny churn-crunch "Self Inflicted Loss." It's below.

TRACKLIST:
01 "Beef Relief"
02 "Loose Screw"

05 "In Closing"
06 "Stealing Shadows"
07 "Lead Gods"
08 "Clearing All The Vultures Away"
