We here at Stereogum are big fans of Victoryland, the partnership of singer-songwriter Julian McCamman (ex-Blood) and producer Dan Howard (also of the special new band Billboard Style). Also fans of Victoryland: Dead Oceans, one of the biggest and best labels in indie music, which has just added the band to their roster.
In December, Dead Oceans will release a deluxe edition of Victoryland's debut My Heart Is A Room With No Cameras In It, which earned Album Of The Week honors from us last winter and placed highly on our list of the best albums of 2026 so far come summertime. Along with the announcement comes today's new bonus track "The Ugliest Girl On The Beach," a fine specimen of post-Cure alternative rock with a brisk tempo, keen melodic instincts, and an undercurrent of melancholia.
"Sinking into the hot sand and watching the two blue lovers trying to kiss, forever caught in their parallel hell, I refused the barrier between me and nature," McCamman says of the song. "I’m still there, still trying for the answer: who am I when I’m alone?" Watch the video below.
