Produced and written with Brian Eno, Paul Simon's Surprise is streaming at AOL.
The legendary songwriter talks to NY Times:
"It's a weird time to be a 60-year-old in pop music. If this record found a significant audience, I wouldn't be shocked, because I think it came out of an interesting way of composing and working. But if it didn't, I would say O.K., because I'm not really following in anybody's footsteps here. I'm kind of in my own zone and really have been since I wandered off 20 years ago with Graceland."
Surprise: don't tell Paul but he's actually 64. We have a soft spot for Graceland, though, and are digging Simon+Eno save for the duo's few missteps (e.g., the hip-hop informed "Outrageous"). Worth checking out; we're listening for a Budda box!
