When not torturing children/proving they've never read Nietzsche, MGMT have been adding shakers and rain sticks and other trippy new elements to one-time tour and labelmates Violens' "Doomed." (Violens once remixed MGMT's "Time To Pretend," so this is nice and circular.) The last time Violens went under the remix knife, Lilys and Rod Coles affixed percussive layers to the crisp "Already Over," and we mentioned it appeared on a remix EP, along with RAC, Subtle People!, and MGMT. We weren't lying. The scruffier, muffled MGMT reworking introduces a fuzziness into the pristine Violens canon.

While we're here, Chairlift's Caroline Polacheck came up with visuals for an "Already Over" "visual remix," which plays on Jorge Elbrecht's occasionally George Michael-esque intonations.

An expanded version of Violens' self-titled EP is out via Static Recital/Cantora. Check out a new UK Chess Club Records 7" A-Side "Lightning Lightning" at the band's MySpace. Look for a proper debut full-length in the fall.
