Lala Lala – “Arrow”

Ariel Fish

Lillie West put the LA in Lala Lala with a move from Chicago to Los Angeles ahead of new album Heaven 2, produced by Angeleno fixture Melina Duterte (aka Jay Som). After dropping "Does This Go Faster?" last fall, West announced the album in January with the release of two more tracks. Today we get a fourth preview song, and like the others, it's great.

Riding an uptempo programmed pulse (and incorporating a La Femme sample), "Arrow" points relentlessly forward. "None of this was supposed to happen," she sings on the chorus, finding a level of meticulous control that eluded her outside the musical realm. "It’s such a basic spiritual thing," West says. "Resistance is the root of all suffering, and I did not know that. I thought that I could dictate the course of my life."

Heaven 2 is out 2/27 on Sub Pop.
