True Green – “How To Draw Hands”

Try to imagine a version of the Silver Jews where David Berman generally felt pretty good about himself and the world. That's basically impossible to even consider, but that's what I'm getting from True Green's newest song. True Green is a Minneapolis-based indie rock project from the novelist and musician Dan Hornsby. True Green's new album Hail Disaster comes out next month, and we've heard the songs "Consider The Priesthood," "Falconry," and "Italian Lightning." Today, they're back with another one called "How To Draw Hands."

The title of "How To Draw Hands" is not a metaphor for anything. It's really just a song about learning how to draw human hands, which is a pretty difficult thing to do; just ask Rob Liefeld. Over an ambling instrumental with a whole lot of Fender Rhodes, Dan Hornsby tells us about learning to draw from his mom, promises to draw you, and offers some poetically practical advice. I really like this line: "Start with a mitten/ Focus on the silhouette/ They're like spiders and jellyfish and packs of cigarettes." Listen below.

Hail Disaster is out 3/26 on Spacecase Records.
