World News – “Sidestep”

Since 2024's Mindsnap EP, World News have released the killer tunes "Everything Is Coming Up Roses" and "Don't Want To Know." The self-proclaimed "jangle prodigies" are back today with a catchy, trance-like song called "Sidestep."

"'Sidestep' is about watching someone you care about slowly avoid looking after themselves, drifting through life, wasting days on the wrong things, slipping into habits that only pull them further away from who they could be," frontman Alex Evans explains. "It was written about a close family member, but I started to see how common it really is. At its heart, it’s about that helpless feeling of standing on the outside, seeing it all so clearly, wanting to help, and realizing you can’t make the choice for them."

The track was recorded at RAK Studios in central London with producer Tommy Bosustow
(Harry Styles, mary in the junkyard). Evans' earnest baritone is commanding, especially as he sings the hook about days going by, which sounds instantly familiar and wistful. A three-minute instrumental transforms the song into a daydream. Meanwhile, the accompanying music video is a glitchy dance party. Watch below.
