Tennessee native Zoh Amba made their name as a saxophonist on New York's avant-jazz scene, but they're going in a very different direction on their upcoming album Eyes Full. It's a twangy, countrified indie rock record, recorded in Asheville with Kevin Hyland on electric guitar and underground legend Jim White on drums. Lead single "Another Time" recently made it onto our list of the week's best songs, and now Amba follows it with the album's title track.
Like "Another Time" before it, "Eyes Full" leans hard into Amba's towering twang, which again sounds amazing here. This time, the guitars tangle with each other in ways that remind me of prime Sonic Youth. Another winner! Check out the Grace Bader Conrad-directed video below.
Eyes Full is out 6/5 on Matador.
