This year, Babehoven's Maya Bon has been in her collaborative zone. She really always is, since Babehoven is her Hudson, New York-based duo with producer and multi-instrumentalist Ryan Albert, but now she's working with other people, too. Babehoven's most recent album Water's Here In You came out in 2024. Last year, the group had a song with Cassandra Jenkins and Bloomsday on the TRAИƧA benefit compilation. This year, Bon teamed up with Squirrel Flower to cover Mojave 3's "My Life In Art" and also teamed with Squirrel Flower and Billie Marten on the song "Wheels." Now, Babehoven have a new single of their own.
Babehoven will head out on tour with Ray Bull tomorrow, and now they've shared the soft, homespun new song "Blue Around You." It's got some great fiddle-heavy country instrumentation, and it's about one of those moments where you feel like you're part of the universe's greater machinery. In a press release, the band has this to say:
Standing on a bridge seeing apartments illuminated around you, being understood by a friend who knows your story, witnessing someone pull their life together like tenderly tying a shoelace — these are all moments where we find each other in the soup of it all and choose to really see one another and stay. I see the blue around you as if we carry the hard times we go through around and within us like a glow
