Last month, Austin's proun announced their debut album Maybe Luck and released the compelling lead single "Miracles." The indie rock band is back today with another arresting track that leans into a sweeping, emo-folk sound, and it's called "Coloring Pages."
"'Coloring Pages' is one of the most collaborative parts of the record," says leader Jamie Weed, continuing:
This song stems from an instrumental demo [bassist] Dante [Zatto] sent me which outlined what became the drum, bass, and guitar parts. The instrumental felt like a departure from many of our other songs, embracing a more direct interaction between guitar and bass with more angular drums. I used this original demo as a canvas to write about coming out as trans to my mom and the feelings from that day. Parts feel like word vomit surrounded by memories of being a young child free from a gendered existence.
Mumbly vocals, twinkly riffs, and a cathartic guitar solo — this is a real emo tune, and it's great. Check it out below.
